“Cure”

I read a rather peculiar title for a blog post today. “Scientists believe they’ve found a cure for drug addicts!”

My first thought was to click the link and read what crap they’ve come up with now. What new pill they’ll be pushing to “cure” your addiction. What new “strip” they’ll give to anyone who says they’re addicted.

I get aggravated just thinking about it.

I’m not really into the whole conspiracy theory shit, but for this I start being that person.

Big pharma doesn’t give a shit about drug addicts. In fact, my conspiracy theory is that they CREATED these drugs as a form of population control and are slowly letting people die out because they’ve come up with these highly addictive drugs to slowly kill off the people who are too weak to quit.

Yes, I realize you’re probably reading this getting a right good laugh off it, but I’m serious. In a way. Am I probably over exaggerating?

No, not at all.

But really. When you get on google searching for a “quit drugs TODAY” posting that has a “ten steps to a cleaner you today!” title, you’re probably better off searching for Ponzie Schemes to “get rich quick”. It’s about as effective.

There is no magical cure-all. There is no easy out. Months, years, decades down the road you’re going to be thinking about your DOC.  Hell, every time around this time of year my brain goes absolutely ape-shit. Like I turn into a raging bitch for a solid week if not longer. BUT instead of letting my anger, frustration, and annoyances get in the way of my happiness, I just deal with it.

There’s always a hugeeee debate over whether drug addicts are “diseased” and need doctors to get them clean. I have never been more on one side than this moment. Usually I can find some kind of reason to be on both sides and see both points, but I can’t with this. WE ARE NOT DISEASED. WE ARE/WERE ADDICTS! Cancer, that’s a disease. A disease by definition is “a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury.”

You’re physically injuring yourself when you use drugs. So no, it’s not a disease. Sorry, not sorry.

I’m not gonna keep on about this but I would love to hear your thoughts on the “disease” aspect of it. Leave a comment and tell me what you think!
